How do I file an Immigrant Visa Petition?
US citizens or Legal Permanent Residents (LPRs) who wish to sponsor a relative for an immigrant visa must file a petition with the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office responsible for the petitioner's place of residence (that is, the place of residence of the US citizen or LPR who is filing the petition). Responsibility for acceptance and approval of immigrant visa petitions rests solely with USCIS, and USCIS contact information may be found on their webpage by clicking here.
In certain very limited cases petitions may be filed with the USCIS Office in Lima. These cases include those involving U.S. citizens who have been legal residents of Peru for more than six months, in cases of humanitarian emergencies (such as life and death, or health and safety), or if determined to be in the national interest (such as facilitating the travel of US military families), can contact the Lima office of USCIS during their telephone hours from 9:00am to 11:00am on Mondays and Wednesdays. DHS USCIS’ window hours in the Embassy’s Annex building are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00am to 11:00am.
