Passport and Visa Delivery

Approved visas will be returned via courier to the DHL location that you designate according to the instructions given after your interview.  There is no additional cost for this service.

Questions regarding the status of your application and tracking of your passport should be directed to the U.S. Visa Service by logging in to the U.S. Visa Service website with the account information used when registering after your interview appointment.

Final travel plans or the purchase of non-refundable tickets should not be made until a visa has been issued and you have received your passport via DHL.  Please note that some cases may require additional administrative processing that adds to the time required to process your visa application.

The Validity of Your Immigrant Visa

Every immigrant visa has an expiration date that is printed on the visa in your passport.  Although most visas are valid for six months from their issue date, please note that every visa’s expiration date is different.  You must apply for entry to the United States at the border before your visa expires.

The Immigrant Visa Packet

When you receive your immigrant visa via DHL, you will also receive an immigrant visa packet sealed by the Immigrant Visa section.  It is important that you do not open this packet.  Only the Department of Homeland Security at the border can open this packet.  Please hand-carry this packet on to the plane; do not put your immigrant visa packet in your checked baggage.

Please note that no assurances regarding the issuance of visas can be given in advance.  A Consular Officer can make a decision regarding your visa application only after your formal application and all documents have been reviewed, and you have been personally interviewed by a consular officer.  Do not make any travel arrangements to move to the United States, dispose of property or give up your job until a visa has been issued to you and you have received your passport via DHL.
