Non-Immigrant Visas
This section provides information on visa requirements for travelers who wish to visit, work, or study for a temporary period in the United States. The type of visa required will depend on the purpose of your travel. Please note that a visa is not a guarantee of entry into the U.S.; only an immigration officer at the port of entry determines whether or not you may enter as well as your authorized duration of stay.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Your visa application may be subject to an administrative procedure, which could last several weeks. Therefore, we recommend not making travel plans until you have received your visaed passport.
Average Wait Time for a Non-Immigrant Visa Interview Appointment: Please see up-to-date wait times at the Department of State's Visa Wait Time Information Page. Please also note that the published Visa Wait Time is an average, and timing for a particular case will vary based on individual circumstances. Many additional factors, such as the need for special clearances, incomplete applications, and fraud investigations, may require extra time.
Expedited Appointments: For urgent travel including family and medical emergencies, imperative business meetings, student, and exchange visitor requests, please call the visa appointment and information service at 705-3007. Using a Visa or Mastercard, you can purchase a PIN which can be activated immediately. You must inform the operator of the urgent nature of your travel to schedule an expedited appointment.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the pre-interview document review involved in H1B and L visa cases, applicants for those visas should anticipate at least one to two weeks of additional processing time.
Non-Immigrant Visa Fees: All applicants worldwide must pay a US$131.00 application processing fee, payable in local currency (Nuevos Soles) at Banco Continental before applying. The current cost is S/.395.00. For some visa classes and nationalities, additional issuance fees may apply. Please see the Department of State's Visa Types Page for details.
