Renewal Program

Renewal Program: Expedited Processing for Certain Visa Applicants

Under the Renewal Program instituted by the U.S. Embassy in Lima, certain applicants for U.S. business and tourism visas may qualify for expedited processing of their visa application.

Who qualifies?

Effective August 17, 2011, a Peruvian citizen who is living in Peru may qualify for the Renewal Program, in order to renew a B1/B2 visa (which authorizes normal business travel and tourism to the United States), if:

  • The applicant is 18 years old or older;
  • The applicant currently has an unexpired, ten-year, B1/B2 visa or a ten-year B1/B2 visa that expired less than 12 months before the appointment date;
  • The applicant is applying for another B1/B2 visa;
  • The applicant has not been denied a visa since they received their current B1/B2 visa;
  • The applicant has not had their most recent B1/B2 visa lost or stolen; and,
  • The applicant has complied with the immigration laws and regulations of the United States in the use of his or her prior visas.

Applicants who meet all the requirements listed above will have a special line (for Visa Renewal applicants, only) on the day of their interview. This will result in a shorter waiting period and faster processing of their application.

Please note that it is now required for applicants to have a brief interview with the Consular Officer.

What documents to bring to the interview?

Applicants must bring the following to their interview:

  • Their valid passport;
  • The online application confirmation page, which includes the bar code. The applicants must submit their online application through the Consular Electronic Application Center, at least 48 hours before the appointment date. It’s not required to print and bring the entire application to the interview; only the confirmation page.
  • A 5cm x 5cm (2” x 2”) color photo. Please visit the Department of State website, for information on photo requirements. If the printed confirmation page does not show the photograph that was uploaded, applicants are required to bring one to their interview or pay to get one taken at the photo booth located in the waiting area of the Consular Section.

For further information or to schedule an appointment, please visit the U.S. Visa Service website.

For applicants 80 years old or older

After registering at the U.S. Visa Service website, applicants who are 80 years or older may drop off the documents listed above at any of the DHL offices listed on the U.S. Visa Service website.
