The online registration for DV-2012 DV Lottery begins noon, Tuesday, October 5, 2010 and ends noon, Wednesday, November 3, 2010. Same as last year, Peru is not eligible to participate in the DV program because of the high number (more than 50,000) of Peruvian immigrants to the United States over the previous five (5) years.

Each year, the U.S. Government compiles the immigrant admission figures for the previous five years to identify the countries that can participate in the DV program. A separate determination is made before each lottery application period, resulting in the list of countries eligible for the program changing from one year to the next. This year, nineteen (19) are the countries that are not eligible to apply because they have "graduated" from the Diversity Visa program because of the large numbers of their citizens becoming legal permanent residents during the last five years.  Some of the countries are Brasil, Colombia, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador.
