    Mosquito-borne illnesses are a serious problem in certain areas of Peru, mostly the jungle areas east of the Andes cordillera. Often, the only protection against these diseases is to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes that carry them.   • April 2, 2013: Tsunami alert after earthquake in Chile

    The earthquake off the coast of Chile this evening (April 1) has produced tsunami alerts for coastal areas of Peru. As a result, Peruvian authorities have closed to the public the Costa Verde coastal area in Lima, as well as many other public beaches and ports along the coast. While severe damage is not expected in Peru, any U.S. citizens resident or traveling in coastal areas should take precautions for their personal safety and take seriously any warnings issued by the Peruvian authorities.

  • January 3, 2013: Road Closures for Panamericana Sur Highway on Selected Days

    This year’s summer plan came into effect December 30, 2012 to facilitate the flow of traffic between Lima and beaches located south of the city. All cars on the Panamericana Sur Highway will move in a single direction between the Atocongo bridge (San Juan de Miraflores district) and the Pucusana bridge (approximately 46 km south of Atocongo) during scheduled times of the summer months.  Read more... »
